Good physical and mental health is vital to a productive and enjoyable life. This publication consists of 4 (8 1/2” X 11”) pages of information which addresses the problem of obesity, picky eaters, infant nutrition and healthy living habits for children in child care centers and in after-school programs.

Good health is one of the greatest assets to a productive and enjoyable life. The ability to participate in educational opportunities, careers, leisure activities and family life is highly dependent upon one’s health. However, for the first time in history, the Center for Disease Control predicts that the current generation of children will not live as long as their parents. Obesity, poor nutrition and a sedentary lifestyle are undermining the health of our nation’s children. The foundations of health are established in early childhood and there is much that caregivers can do to help children develop healthy living habits.

Helping children learn to make wise choices regarding food can be challenging due to the powerful and frequent messages targeted at children by the media to buy unhealthy foods. The busy and hurried lifestyle of young families has made fast food an almost daily fare in many households.
